UofL - Industry Partnership
1. Partnership Origin and Vision
The University of Louisville initiated its partnership with Kindred Healthcare in November 2017 to establish Hive as an Innovation hub. The Hive was created as a center for developing healthcare technology solutions, particularly for aging care. This initiative leveraged UofL’s academic resources and Kindred Healthcare’s expertise to foster innovation in healthcare and technology.
2. UofL & Kindred Healthcare Launch HIVE Innovation Hub
The University of Louisville (UofL) was abuzz with excitement as leaders celebrated a groundbreaking partnership with Kindred Healthcare. The initiative, aptly named The Hive, focuses on creating cutting-edge healthcare technology solutions, including mobile applications tailored to aging care.
Located near UofL’s Belknap Campus, The Hive fosters collaboration between Kindred professionals, UofL students, and faculty. Kindred President and CEO Benjamin A. Breier described the partnership as a model for community-focused innovation
2. HIVE Rebranding and Expanded Focus in 2023
In January 2023, Hive underwent significant transformation when UofL assumed full management. Hive AI Innovation Studio was created with an expended vision to focus on AI-driven research and solutions that benefit the wider community. The studio now supports projects in areas such as:

- Cloud deployment
- Virtual Reality
